Students as Independent Scholars

8 11 2011

In my attempt to teach my students how to be more self-motivated in their education, I have introduced the concept of becoming independent scholars.  Here are the goals we discuss often.

Independent scholars…

Are able to plan and complete complicated projects.

Are able to set goals and evaluate projects.

Are able to complete tasks without supervision.

Are able to ask for assistance only when necessary to complete assignments.

Are able to turn in all assignments on time.

Are able to find productive activities to engage in after their required work is completed.

Love it. Definitely stealing this for my computers and information 7 class. And, frankly, any other class where we do any form of self-directed learning.
